Erode

Solo Exhibition | 2017 | Absolution, The Tannery, Christchurch

Artwork by Rubee Prattley-Jones. Curated by Caitlin Grant.

About

Rubee Prattley-Jones investigates the Opawaho-Heathcote River in Erode. Mesmerised by the ripples and eddies created by the river, Rubee intends to mimic their natural flows throughout their works. Inspired by water, they explore a deeper consideration of the Canterbury landscape which might not be as pristine as one may hope. Their intricate sculptures and drawings are made with natural processes in mind, as they use clay and found sediment to encapsulate the current state of the river with an abrupt honesty. Made with Absolution’s location in mind, Erode is a timely exploration of the relationship between the human body and the environment in which we exist.
